BLG LOGISTICS – Strong partner in terms of training
It is expected of a traditional company with international operations like BLG LOGISTICS that it also addresses and supports socially important issues. For this reason BLG has been committed to numerous projects in the regions surrounding their national and international locations and supporting social, cultural, sports and educational activities for many years now. One of these educational activities is the Maritime Sector and Logistics (MARWILO) school project, which celebrates its ten-year anniversary this year and which BLG LOGISTICS initiated jointly with bremenports in 2006.
Since then the Institute for Economic Education (IÖB), an affiliated institute of the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, has been designing practice-oriented teaching materials for economics lessons that provide pupils with an introduction to the port sector, shipping and logistics and enable exemplary learning on the basis of a key sector.
More than 30,000 workbooks have been requested to date. In its anniversary year the project has come up with a new website. It not only has a new design, but also links work with the workbooks systematically to the opportunities for use in schools offered by the Internet. Pupils can obtain in-depth information, do research and test their knowledge online. In interactive tasks, for example, they allocate locations to cities, rural districts, states and countries, which in turn is a prerequisite for designation of regional economic zones. Graphics, statistics and pictures additionally offer an extended approach to certain topics.
MARWILO has been supported by institutions, initiatives and companies of all five coastal federal states since 2011. In this way a pupil- and practice-oriented cross-border educational project has evolved that fosters the teaching of economic interrelationships using the port, shipping and logistics sectors as an example and without promoting specific locations.
