MSC OSCAR – a new giant in Bremerhaven

The MSC OSCAR made fast at the container terminal in Bremerhaven for the first time on its maiden voyage today. Based on its capacity of 19,224 TEU, it is currently the biggest container vessel in the world.

Two additional new ships of this type will go into service soon. They are 396 meters long and 59 meters wide. The next port of destination for the MSC OSCAR is Wilhelmshaven.

Based on their length, however, the new MSC giants are still topped by the Maersk Triple E class ships with a length of 399 meters and a width of 59 meters. They regularly call at Bremerhaven. Maersk has ordered 20 new vessels of this category, 17 of them are already in operation.
