THERMOPYLAE in Bremerhaven for the first time

On its maiden voyage from Asia to Europe the new vessel THERMOPYLAE operated by shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines called at the BLG Auto Terminal in Bremerhaven for the first time.

With a width of 36.5 meters and a length of 200 meters the car carrier is substantially broader than the standard large ships, which are slightly over 32 meters wide. It was built at the Hyundai shipyard in Korea. Seven other carriers of this type have been ordered and are scheduled to go into operation one after the other by 2017.

In Bremerhaven the THERMOPYLAE discharged 1,506 vehicles, primarily Mitsubishi models. They subsequently go the technical center at the Auto Terminal for processing before being sent to the car dealers. In addition, high & heavy cargo was discharged, including construction equipment, trucks and trailers. The THERMOPYLAE took 714 export vehicles, i.e. Audi, BMW, Porsche, Skoda and VW models, as well as high & heavy units on board for its return voyage.
