BLG sets up new sports and fashion logistics segment

Yesterday BLG Handelslogistik GmbH & Co. KG and MOTEX Mode-Textil-Service Logistik und Management GmbH signed an agreement establishing the joint venture BLG Sports & Fashion Logistics GmbH. By acquiring 51 percent of the shares in MOTEX, a company based in Hörsel, Thuringia, BLG laid the foundation stone for setting up a new business segment.

Germany is the biggest clothing market in Europe. A major trend in this sector is the substantial increase in complex e-commerce business – with the highest growth rates in the fashion industry. The shift between the sales channels – from stationary to online – also augments the demand for new logistics concepts. Furthermore, returns represent additional market volume for logistics providers. BLG LOGISTICS already offers a broad portfolio of logistics services to such well-known brand manufacturers as Tchibo and engelbert strauss. In several large projects BLG has developed and launched complex warehousing and order picking systems. Particularly the e-commerce centers at the Bremen and Frankfurt locations are evidence of the logistics company’s expertise in handling flat goods.

MOTEX Mode-Textil-Service Logistik und Management GmbH was founded in 1991 as a one hundred percent subsidiary of Adler Modemärkte GmbH and is specialized in hanging goods logistics. The company with around 500 employees and a corporate culture based on a family atmosphere is an established player in the niche market encompassing fashion logistics for hanging goods. Its well-known clientele includes Adler and Steilmann.

“By acquiring the company shares, we are not only laying the foundation stone for setting up a new segment, but are also gaining a powerful and competent team,” says BLG Board member Andreas Wellbrock. “Since the two companies complement each other in terms of their competencies, it’s now possible to offer customers big, comprehensive solutions.” Among other things, that applies to handling flat and hanging goods, the e-commerce sector, cross-channel retailing, processing, value added services, returns, IT processes as well as project and process management. Markus Buckow, up to now managing partner of MOTEX Mode-Textil-Service Logistik und Management GmbH, states: “I’m delighted that two partners are joining forces on equal terms under the BLG Sports & Fashion Logistics umbrella. We will make use of the know-how and experience of both companies to develop a lot of new business with new customers in the future.”

Together with Thomas Krüger from the BLG Retail Logistics Board of Management, Markus Buckow will head the joint venture in future. The entire economic transition of MOTEX GmbH will take place in two steps and be completed in 2019.
