Containers in the fast lane

As part of the ”FastLane” project, the logistics service provider has teamed up with container technology company SecureSystem to test a newly developed service for smooth, fast and secure container transport. The approach is designed to cut customs clearance times in destination ports and simplify the entire customs process. The innovation team at BLG LOGISTICS is shipping 20 containers fitted with a sensor system from SecureSystem to the U.S.

They will start their journey in the Bremen Logistics Center. There they will be securely sealed and prepared for transport. During transport, the sensor system logs real-time data on the location, condition and integrity of the containers. This digital data then supports the complex customs decision-making process. For example, if the containers are not opened without authorization during the trip, they can be classed as low-risk. This can reduce the need for time-intensive inspections. Conversely, if containers are improperly opened during transport, a notification goes directly to predetermined recipients as well as the customs authority.

The cooperation project between BLG LOGISTICS and SecureSystem supports the strategy of border authorities who want to apply technology for better security and simplified processing. The partners are in constant discussions with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as other customs authorities around the world.

BLG: First german logistics company

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has recognized the targets of BLG LOGISTICS to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in absolute terms. That makes BLG LOGISTICS the first German logistics service provider and the first company in Bremen with scientifically recognized climate protection targets.

The SBTi is a collaboration between the environment organization CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

„We're very aware of our responsibility to the environment and I'm proud that we've set ourselves these ambitious climate protection targets,“ said Frank Dreeke, CEO of BLG LOGISTICS.

The scientifically recognized target is to reduce emissions within the company in absolute terms by 30 percent, and outside the company by 15 percent – in both cases by 2030. BLG already offers its customers climate-neutral services. Under the name Mission Climate, the seaport and logistics service provider brings together all its activities designed to achieve its overriding goal of becoming a climate-neutral company by 2030. Furthermore, BLG LOGISTICS invests in carefully selected and certified climate protection projects to offset unavoidable emissions.

At the 21st World Climate Conference (COP 21) in 2015, the international community resolved the legally binding Paris Agreement. Its goal is to limit global warming to significantly below 2°C, and if possible to a maximum of 1.5°C. This can only be achieved with the contribution of businesses.

When revising their climate strategies, more and more companies are asking how they can measure an appropriate contribution of their company to limiting global warming. The SBTi provides a framework for this. It examines how far greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced to support the goals of the Paris Agreement. Currently, 503 companies across the globe have targets confirmed by the SBTi. Of these companies, 26 are based in Germany.

BLG LOGISTICS logistics provider for L-Nutra

Since September 2018 BLG Logistics Italia, at its warehouse located in Rho (west Milan area) - dedicated, among other things, to e-commerce activities, manages the storage, customized packaging and distribution activities, both in Italy and abroad, of L-Nutra products, consisting of food supplements and freeze-dried foods from both Italian and American production plants.

In addition to the classic logistics services such as goods receipt, order collection and shipping, the HACCP regulation for this sector has played an important role in the development of the project. To complete the offer of the services offered, the warehouse has been equipped with a dedicated area set up according to the regulations.
The first milestone was reached in 2019, with 10,000 kits cumulatively realised at the site. Business development forecasts seem promising: the monthly growth rate seems in fact destined to double, both in Italy and in Europe.
