Heading for the future

November 13, 2025

At its reconciliation meeting on November 13, 2025, the Bundestag’s Budget Committee decided to provide a total of € 1.35 billion in funding for the construction and expansion of a modern port structure in Bremerhaven that meets the requirements of the changing times.

Matthias Magnor, Chairman of the Board and CEO of BLG LOGISTICS, emphasises: ‘With this decision, politicians are recognising the importance of our location in Bremerhaven. The expansion and upgrading of the port are important steps towards securing our countr’s future and defence capabilities. As a partner of NATO, BLG has extensive expertise in military logistics. We are delighted that this decision will create the operational conditions necessary for Bremerhaven to remain a reliable partner for the defence capabilities of Germany and NATO in the future.’

The high & heavy area at the BLG AutoTerminal in Bremerhaven and the container terminals at the Stromkaje are considered to be among the best in Europe for handling rolling cargo and containers. With a throughput volume of around 1 million tonnes of high and heavy goods and 4.4 million standard containers (TEU) per year, the terminals are among the largest of their kind in Europe.

Over the next six years, the long-standing capabilities in Bremerhaven are to be modernised and further developed so that the Alliance partners can continue to be fully supported in the future. This will strengthen Bremerhaven’s position as the hub of a transport network that extends deep into the interior of the country.
